Brent Wright
Founder & President
Brent Wright is the Founder and President of B. Wright Leadership Academy, a former professional basketball player, educator, mentor, and community leader committed to creating opportunities for young people.
A Miami native and graduate of Miami Senior High School, Mr. Wright continued his education and basketball career at the University of Florida, where he played under Coach Billy Donovan and helped the Florida Gators advance to the 2000 NCAA National Championship game.
He later enjoyed a 14-year professional basketball career overseas, competing in countries around the world. Those experiences exposed him to different cultures, communities, leadership styles, and educational opportunities. They also helped shape his belief that young people can accomplish extraordinary things when they have access to strong education, mentorship, discipline, exposure, and people who believe in their potential.
Why B. Wright Leadership Academy Was Created
After returning home to Miami, Mr. Wright saw talented young people with tremendous potential who did not always have access to the same educational resources, mentorship, experiences, and opportunities as their peers. He wanted to build more than a school.
He wanted to create a place where students could receive a strong education while also developing confidence, character, discipline, leadership skills, critical thinking, and a belief in what is possible for their future.
B. Wright Leadership Academy was created to help turn potential into opportunity.
Our Vision
Mr. Wright’s vision is to build B. Wright Leadership Academy into a model of educational excellence and leadership development for students and families.
The goal is to create a pipeline of future leaders who are prepared for high school, college, careers, entrepreneurship, leadership, and life.
Through academics, literacy, STEAM, technology, athletics, mentorship, cultural exposure, career development, and leadership education, BWLA is preparing students not only to succeed in the classroom, but also to succeed in the world.
